God

God’s gift to you

(and remember, a gift is free!)

Step OneBridge 1

God’s Purpose: Peace and Life
God loves you and wants you to experience peace and life – abundant and eternal.

The Bible says …

“We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” – Romans 5:1

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10

But most people don’t have the kind of peace or abundant life that the Bible talks about.  Why not?  That brings us to the next step…

Step TwoBridge 2

The Problem: Our Separation
When God created us, He intended for us to have peace and abundant life. But He did not make us as robots who would love and obey Him automatically. He created us with a free will and the ability to choose to love Him – or not.

Every one of us has chosen to disobey God and go our own willful way. We still make that choice day after day. This results in separation from God, and eventually, eternal death.  Why?  Because God is entirely perfect (holy) and we are not.  That kind of perfection demands that He separate Himself from us and punish our sinful attitude and behavior…

The Bible says …

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

“the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  – Romans 6:23

Our Attempts to Reach God
People have tried many ways to bridge this gap between themselves and God …

  • Doing good things or trying to live a “good” life.
  • Going to church.
  • Being religious.
  • Giving money to charities or churches.
  • Praying a lot.
  • Reading self-help books.
  • Crystals, tarot cards, occult practices.

Bridge 2The Bible says …

“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” – Proverbs 14:12

“But your iniquities (sins) have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” Isaiah 59:2

The sad news is that NO bridge reaches God … except one.  And that’s the GOOD news!

Bridge 4Step Three

God’s Bridge: The Cross
Just as God is holy and cannot tolerate our sin, He is loving and cannot allow us to be punished with eternal death.  His perfect love demands that He do something about our problem.  He did just that when He sent Jesus Christ to the earth.  Jesus was fully God and fully man.  He came to the earth to pay the penalty for our sin by dying in our place.  When He did that, He became the “bridge” that closed the gap between God and people.

The Bible says …

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the Man Jesus Christ.” – 1 Timothy 2:5

“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” – 1 Peter 3:18

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

God has provided the only way for us to be connected in relationship to Him and be forgiven of our sin. But like we agreed before, He didn’t make us robots – each person must make a choice to receive the gift God has provided for themselves.

Bridge 5Step Four

Our Response: Receive Christ
We must trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and receive Him by personal invitation.

The Bible says …

“to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”-  John 1:12

“if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9

Imagine yourself on the drawing… which side of the bridge are you on?  Or maybe you feel like you are somewhere in the middle of the bridge?  Is there any reason you wouldn’t want to cross all the way over to be reunited with God right now?  You can do that once and for all by receiving Christ…Here’s how:

  • Admit your need (“Yes God, I admit I am a sinner.”).
  • Believe that Jesus Christ died in your place on the Cross and that He rose from the grave.
  • Place your complete trust in Him alone to forgive you and place you into God’s family.
  • Through prayer, invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit. (Receive Him as Lord and Savior.)

The Bible says…

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.” – Ephesians 2:8,9

“He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” –1 John 5:12-13

When we receive Christ as our Savior, we become children of God and are part of His eternal family forever!  Jesus promises that we can never lose this forgiveness, no matter what we do!
